McDonald receives international award for memory research

Carrie McDonald, a doctoral student in the University of Florida College of Health Professions’ clinical and health psychology department, has received the International Neuropsychological Society’s annual Laird Cermak Award.

The award recognizes the best research project in learning and memory by a doctoral student or researcher who has received his or her doctorate within the past five years. McDonald will receive a cash award and will present her research in February at the society’s annual meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii.

In her research, McDonald examines problems with attention and memory in patients with frontal lobe epilepsy who have received brain surgery to prevent seizures. McDonald’s work is conducted under the mentorship of Russell Bauer, Ph.D., a professor of clinical and health psychology.
