Nursing faculty member honored for geriatric research
Ann Horgas, Ph.D., R.N., a University of Florida College of Nursing associate professor, has been honored with the Springer Award in Geriatric/Gerontologic Nursing for her research in geriatric nursing.
The Springer Award, co-sponsored by the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing and Springer Publishing, honors a distinguished single work of research in applied geriatric nursing. Horgas, also a core faculty member with the UF Institute on Aging, currently is the principal investigator or co-investigator of more than $2.5 million in grants from the National Institute for Nursing Research and the National Institute on Aging. She is studying methods to assess pain in nursing home residents with dementia, as well as interventions to improve mental function in the elderly.
Horgas will receive a $500 prize in late November at the Gerontological Society of America’s annual conference in Boston, Mass. Her work will be considered for publication in a book or journal by Springer Publishing Co.
