UF’s Wilkinson elected president of Florida Society of Pathologists

University of Florida pathologist Edward Wilkinson, M.D., has been elected president of the Florida Society of Pathologists.

Wilkinson, professor and vice chairman of the UF College of Medicine's department of pathology, immunology and laboratory medicine, began his two-year term at the organization’s 28th annual Anatomic Pathology Conference Feb. 23 in Orlando. He previously served as president-elect for two years and has chaired the society’s education committee since 1995.

Wilkinson plans to encourage more members to participate in the society’s educational activities, including scientific conferences featuring lectures by nationally known pathologists. At this year’s Anatomic Pathology Conference, some topics discussed were inflammatory and infectious lung diseases, ovarian and testicular tumors, and diseases of the lymphatic system and bone marrow cells.

Wilkinson also is director of the division of anatomic pathology at UF and medical director of the UF Diagnostic Referral Laboratories.

The Florida Society of Pathologists promotes the practice of pathology, arranges educational programs for its members and monitors legislative issues of interest to pathologists.
