UF Facilities Planning and Construction honored for innovative system
An innovative data management system has earned the University of Florida Facilities Planning and Construction Division first place in a “best practices” competition held by the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers.
The award was announced at the association’s recent annual meeting in Houston, Texas. To compete, UF and other institutions submitted projects or initiatives used to enhance efficiency, revenue, cost savings or customer services.
The UF submission, titled “Implementation of a Comprehensive Facility Data System,” is an integrated database that analyzes and supports activities such as research productivity, space management, information technology infrastructure and maintenance management. The database originated as a pilot program at the Health Science Center and was expanded and implemented campuswide when it proved successful.
At the association meeting, an online demonstration of the database was presented by Carol Walker, Frank Phillips, Eugene Herring and Jodi Chase of the Facilities Planning and Construction Division. The division is responsible for the planning and construction of all physical facilities for the UF campus and the six colleges comprising the Health Science Center.
