UF faculty member named to board of cardiac patient support program

A faculty member in the University of Florida’s College of Health Professions has been named to the board of directors for the international Cardiac Arrest Survivor Network.

Samuel Sears, Ph.D., an associate professor in the department of clinical and health psychology, will help direct future developments of the Cardiac Arrest Survivor Network’s Web site and generate ideas for new ventures.

Sears’ research focuses on the psychological care of cardiac patients, including those who have received implantable cardioverter defibrillators, electronic devices that terminate potentially life-threatening, irregular heartbeats and prevent sudden cardiac arrest.

The Boston-based Cardiac Arrest Survivor Network offers psychosocial and emotional support to sudden cardiac arrest survivors and their families through Web-based resources.
