UF medical resident wins first prize

A third-year resident in the University of Florida College of Medicine’s obstetrics and gynecology department took top prize for her research presentation at the Florida Obstetric and Gynecologic Society’s recent annual meeting in Orlando.

Amanda Murchison, M.D., won the first-place prize of $1,000 for a scientific presentation by a resident. In her research she examined the cost effectiveness of a drug called misoprostol for use in evacuation of early failed pregnancies. She compared intravaginal misoprostol treatment to conventional surgical treatment and documented major cost savings with the drug.

Every year the Florida Obstetric and Gynecologic Society invites residents to present their research at the annual meeting. A resident from each of the obstetrics and gynecology residency programs in Florida participated this year.

Murchison received her medical degree from the University of Texas at Houston Medical School in 2000. When she completes her residency, she plans to enter private practice.
