UF newborn hearing program receives gift

Joseph Kemker, Ph.D., professor in the University of Florida College of Health Professions’ department of communicative disorders, tests a newborn’s hearing as part of Florida’s Universal Newborn Hearing Screening program. The UF department recently received a $10,932 gift from the Miami-based Hearing Research Institute Inc. to purchase additional equipment for newborn screenings. Department staff conducts hearing tests on about 2,000 Gainesville babies a year.
