UF orthodontist wins prize for research study

Calogero Dolce, D.D.S., Ph.D., an assistant professor of orthodontics at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, has been awarded the 2002 KLS Martin Prize for Distraction Osteogenesis/Orthognathic Surgery. The International Association of Dental Research/American Association of Dental Research’s Oral and Maxillofacial Research Group selected Dolce’s abstract, “Five Year Hard to Soft Tissue Correlations Following BSSO.”

His research focuses on the position of the soft tissue after mandibular advancement surgery.

Dolce, at UF since 1996, presented his findings at the association’s annual meeting in San Diego. The selection includes a cash prize and plaque.

The KLS Martin Corporation sponsors the prize, which recognizes outstanding research contributions in the realm of distraction osteogenesis/orthognathic surgery. Osteogenesis and orthognathic are two types of surgical procedures that are used to correct skeletal bone defects. The abstract and presentation must be original and of scientific value.
