UF vascular surgeon elected to two leadership positions

The University of Florida College of Medicine’s chief of vascular surgery has been elected to two leadership positions in his field. James M. Seeger, M.D., a professor of surgery, recently was elected president of the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery and to the Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery.

Seeger was elected president at the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery’s annual meeting last month in Miami.

His goals include updating next year’s annual meeting program to better address the issues facing society members. These issues include the evolution of primarily open surgical procedures to a combination of endovascular and open procedures, the significant changes being considered for the training of vascular surgeons, as well as the increasing number of people with vascular diseases.

Seeger also hopes to establish a mechanism for honoring association members who have been instrumental in developing the young subspecialty of vascular surgery.

Seeger was elected last fall to a three-year term on the Vascular Surgery Board, which is responsible for certifying vascular surgeons in the United States. The board also determines the type of training surgeons must complete to be eligible for certification.
