Bishop Teaching Award
Recognized after just one year of full-time teaching, Bishop has been selected for the college’s Teaching Excellence Award for his creativity and commitment to students in the department of physical therapy.
Bishop teaches courses in biomechanics and orthopedics to entry-level master’s degree students. He is the first physical therapy faculty member to use Web enhancement in the classroom and has arranged for many visits by local health-care practitioners and patients with disabilities to the classroom.
An Australian native, Bishop completed his doctorate in the College of Health Professions’ rehabilitation science degree program in 2002 and joined the physical therapy department faculty the same year. Bishop employs a versatile teaching style in the classroom. “My philosophy is to provide a variety of different lesson plans and teaching styles so that students with different learning styles can participate fully as learners,” Bishop said. “The more involved the students become in the material, the more likely they will be to use the content.”
