Junchang "Clinton" Yang, M.S., a senior biological scientist, medical laboratory technologist and supervisor for the pathology, immunology and laboratory medicine department, has retired.
Yang, who came to UF from China in 1982 and was originally a visiting professor in the microbiology and cell science department, worked for the pathology department's Diagnostic Referral Laboratory since 1991. His duties have included using molecular techniques to diagnose diseases, especially lymphoma and leukemia.
"My philosophy was to try and do everything perfectly," Yang said. "I liked being able to help the physicians accurately diagnose diseases, and I think it provided a service for people. I tried to do things as soon as possible, with no delay, to help physicians treat patients as quickly as possible."
Yang's retirement plans include possibly working with microbiology and cell science part-time or as a consultant.
"I have to have something to do - if I sit at home with nothing to do, I'll get in trouble," he said. "I also plan to fix my violin, which has been sitting for quite a while, and see if I can play it a little bit. My wife and I also plan to visit our native land, China."
