Marie Walker, Telephone technician retires

Marie Walker, a telephone technician, has retired after nearly 24 years of service to the Health Science Center. In November 1978, she began her UF career in the physical plant’s accounting office. She quickly was promoted to storekeeper, then program assistant, a position in which she coordinated efforts to maintain continuous phone service for personnel relocating from one office to another throughout the evolving academic health center.

In her latest position, Walker worked for HealthNet, which installs wiring and infrastructure equipment to support computer connections at the Health Science Center. The recent construction of the Health Professions/Nursing/Pharmacy Complex led to one project she valued.

“I think my greatest accomplishment would be sharing in the installing of 450 IP phones (enabling calls to be made from a computer to a telephone or another computer) in the HPNP Complex,” Walker said.
