Rebecca Leacock, Registrar, College of Medicine
Becky Leacock’s retirement on June 13 marked the conclusion of a 35-year career at UF, and the date happened to coincide with her 39th wedding anniversary and her daughter’s 28th birthday. She filled several positions on the main campus before accepting a secretarial position at the medical school in 1970.
As the medical college’s second registrar, Leacock was one of the first people freshmen medical students would meet during registration and orientation, and one of the last bidding them a happy farewell at graduation. Working with medical student admissions for three decades, she helped coordinate the myriad details of commencement ceremonies year after year. She’s proud of having moved graduation from University Memorial Auditorium to the Phillips Center for Performing Arts for greater space and comfort.
“I will miss graduation time, despite all its stresses, “ she said. Leacock said her job expanded progressively with the Health Science Center’s growth, requiring her to stay organized, manage multiple tasks and refine her computer skills. As she leaves the busy post, she hopes to spend more time traveling with her husband, Bob; visit more often with their children and grandchildren; and devote more hours to needlework, sewing and volunteer work in the community.
