Record number of straight-A students recognized at UF College of Medicine Honors Convocation

A record 16 University of Florida College of Medicine first-year students were recognized May 14 for maintaining perfect 4.0 grade point averages at the college’s Honors Convocation and Lecture.

They received the college’s Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement, as did three second-year and three third-year students who maintained 4.0 averages each year. The convocation, an awards ceremony for medical students, was held at the UF Health Science Center and involved about 20 categories of awards and scholarships.

Other highlights included the first Barbara B. Bennett, M.D., Memorial Award, named for a UF obstetrics and gynecology associate professor who died in an airplane crash in February 2002, and a lecture on successful third-year clerkship by John D. Davis, M.D., a UF associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology.
