UF doctoral student receives scholarship from Florida association
Lori Fitsimones, a University of Florida College of Health Professions’ doctoral student, recently received a $3,000 doctoral student scholarship from the Florida Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
Fitsimones, a student in the rehabilitation science degree program’s communication neuroscience track, received the award last month at the association’s annual convention. The selection was based on an essay she wrote on the importance of evidence-based treatments in clinical practice, as well as her transcripts and letters of recommendation.
In her research, Fitsimones studies the role of breathing in voice production and swallowing disorders. Her work is conducted under the mentorship of John Rosenbek, Ph.D., a clinical professor in the college’s department of communicative disorders.
