UF professor to head national committee on news drugs for AIDS

Ben Dunn, Ph.D., a distinguished professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine, has accepted an invitation to chair a National Institutes of Health study section designed to identify grants that are likely to lead to the discovery of new drugs for the treatment of HIV infection and AIDS. The appointment will last one year.

“There are good therapies for the treatment of HIV infection these days, but there are a lot of difficulties with viral resistance, as well as side effects with some of the current medications,” Dunn said. “The objective of this panel is to identify new targets for therapy and improvements in patient treatment. I think we play an important role.”
