UF student receives graduate research award

A University of Florida doctoral student has won a national award to help support her research in clinical and health psychology.

Karen Bearss, a student in the College of Health Professions’ clinical and health psychology department, received a $1,000 award from the American Psychological Association’s Science Directorate Dissertation Research Award program. The Science Directorate grants the awards to approximately 50 students nationwide whose dissertation research reflects excellence in scientific psychology.

In her research, Bearss is studying whether custody disputes during a divorce affect the way parents report their children’s behavior to the courts. She is working under the mentorship of Sheila Eyberg, Ph.D., a professor of clinical and health psychology.
