UF veterinary professor honored by Florida Poultry Federation
Poultry veterinarian Gary Butcher, D.V.M., Ph.D., a professor at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, has been named the Florida Poultry Federation’s 2003 Person of the Year.
One of the top poultry specialists in his field, Butcher is respected nationally and internationally for his expertise in poultry health and management.
“He has the respect and cooperation of the federation, as well as of numerous allied industry companies in the United States,” said Richard Miles, Ph.D., a professor of poultry nutrition and management with UF’s department of animal sciences, in which Butcher holds a joint appointment.
Butcher’s teaching abilities are considerable, whether he’s teaching UF veterinary students or lecturing in Florida or abroad. “He is recognized as an outstanding international instructor. Thanks to Dr. Butcher’s involvement with the Latin American Nutrition Center for Education in Costa Rica, the LANCE program is one of the most successful and prestigious educational programs in all of Latin America,” Miles said.
