Veterinary marine mammal program director receives Distinguished Alumnus award

Deke Beusse, D.V.M., director of the College of Veterinary Medicine’s marine mammal program, has been selected as the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine’s Distinguished Alumnus for 2003.

“All of us in the alumni association and the college have followed your career and noted with pride how you have served your community on local, state and national levels,” wrote David Dreesen, D.V.M., president of UGA’s veterinary alumni association, in a letter informing Beusse of the honor.

The award was presented at UGA’s 40th annual veterinary conference and alumni reunion banquet.

Beusse came out of retirement to join UF’s faculty in 2001 as director of a new program focusing on marine mammal medicine. He was a contract veterinarian for Sea World of Florida for 30 years.
