William Christian, mail clerk retires
William “Bill” Christian, a mail clerk for the department of medicine, has retired after more than two decades of service to the Health Science Center.
Early in his UF career, he worked at the West Information Desk in the dental wing and in the Diagnostic Physicians 1 Clinic (now called the Internal Medicine and Medical Specialties Clinic), where he enjoyed helping patients.
“Where else but West Information can you push people around — in a wheelchair, that is — and tell them where to go, in a nice way, to get them to the right place,” Christian said. “What a job!”
In 1991, he began working in the department of medicine’s mailroom, which he said was originally located in a closet with only a small copier.
Christian will continue his close ties to the Health Science Center and the patient community by volunteering at Shands at UF and having lunch twice a week with his wife, Nancy, a program assistant at the College of Medicine.
