Bauer receives University of Florida dissertation mentoring award

Russell Bauer, Ph.D., a professor in the clinical and health psychology department at the College of Public Health and Health Professions, is one of five University of Florida faculty members to receive the UF 2003-04 Doctoral Dissertation Advisor/Mentoring Award.

The awards are designed to encourage and reward excellence, innovation and effectiveness in doctoral dissertation advising. Recipients receive a $3,000 award and an additional $1,000 is deposited into the faculty member’s department account for use in supporting doctoral students.

Bauer has chaired the dissertation committees of 17 students during his tenure at UF. He also serves as the director of the clinical psychology doctoral program and is the department’s associate chairman for academic affairs.

“It is especially pleasing to know that some of my students have gone on to be mentors and educators themselves,” Bauer said. “I think of them as an extended family, and I look forward to the day that my academic ‘children’ and ‘grandchildren’ make enduring contributions to the science and profession of psychology.”
