Nine Health Science Center faculty members named UF Research Foundation Professors
Nine Health Science Center faculty members are among 32 University of Florida faculty members recently named UF Research Foundation Professors for 2004-07. The awards are given to faculty members with a strong research agenda that is likely to lead to continuing distinction in their fields.
The professors were recommended by their college deans on the basis of nominations from their department chairs, a personal statement and an evaluation of their recent research accomplishments, such as publications in scholarly journals and receipt of external funding, honors and awards. The three-year award includes a $5,000 annual salary supplement and a $3,000 grant.
The Health Science Center faculty named research foundation professors are: Nasser Chegini, Ph.D., a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the College of Medicine; William Hauswirth, Ph.D., an eminent scholar of ophthalmology at the College of Medicine; Julie Johnson, Pharm.D., a professor and chairwoman of pharmacy practice at the College of Pharmacy; Marian Limacher, M.D., a professor of medicine at the College of Medicine; Ayalew Mergia, Ph.D., an associate professor of pathobiology at the College of Veterinary Medicine; Ivar Mjör, B.D.S., Dr. Odont., an Academy 100 Eminent Scholar and professor of operative dentistry; Reuben Ramphal, M.D., a professor of medicine at the College of Medicine; James Rodrigue, Ph.D., a professor of clinical and health psychology at the College of Public Health and Health Professions; and Maurice Swanson, Ph.D., a professor of molecular genetics and microbiology at the College of Medicine.
