UF scientist honored for achievements in mycoplasmology research

Daniel R. Brown, Ph.D., a scientist with the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, has received the Derrick Edward Award for his contributions to mycoplasmology research.

Brown an assistant professor of pathobiology, received the award in July in Athens, Ga., during the 15th International Congress of the International Organization for Mycoplasmology held in Athens, Ga.

Brown’s work focuses on genetic and taxonomic analyses of pathogenic mycoplasmas and the diseases they may cause in wildlife hosts. His research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Morris Animal Foundation, the UF University Scholars Program and the Merck-Merial Veterinary Scholars Program.
