Florida Prosthodontist receives distinguished service award

Arthur Nimmo, D.D.S., F.A.C.P., a professor of prosthodontics at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, is the 2005 recipient of the American College of Prosthodontists Distinguished Service Award. He received the award Oct. 28 during the organization’s 35th Annual Session in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Distinguished Service Award is given annually to recognize an ACP member for outstanding contributions and service to the college, to the specialty of prosthodontics and to the dental profession.

“Dr. Nimmo has been recognized with this award for his service to the organization spanning more than 20 years and his continued leadership in the specialty of prosthodontics,” said Patrick M. Lloyd, D.D.S., M.S., president of the ACP.

Nimmo is a past president of the association and contributed to the development of improved diagnostic systems and the current revision of the organization’s parameters of care guidelines. He participated in the development of the ACP Board Preparation Course and ACP Study Guide for board certification in prosthodontics. He served six years as section editor of the academics and education section of the Journal of Prosthodontics. In addition to his activities with the ACP, Nimmo served a four-year term on the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation and has worked on the National Board Examination in Dentistry for the past 10 years.

A diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, Nimmo received his dental degree from the University of Maryland Dental School in 1979 and his certificate in prosthodontics from the UCLA Center for Health Sciences in 1983.
