UF surgeon to lead state’s American college of surgeons chapter

Lawrence Lottenberg, M.D., an associate professor of surgery and anesthesiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine, will become president of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons this month.
“The goal of the leadership of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons is to continue to foster collaboration among its more than 1,000 member surgeons of all specialties throughout Florida in the areas of advocacy, state and national legislative issues, including funding, reimbursement and Medicare cuts, and to continue to bring educational and academic initiatives to the membership,” said Lottenberg, also trauma medical director of Shands at UF Trauma Center.
He added that he will continue to foster collaboration with the Florida Medical Association and all physicians in Florida during his two-year tenure as president.
Lottenberg joined UF in 2004 to help establish and lead a Level I Trauma Center at Shands at UF. He formerly served as the state of Florida trauma medical director, working with the state’s 21 trauma centers to improve patient care. He also is past chairman of the Florida Committee on Trauma, a standing committee of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
The Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons was founded in 1953 and has served as the leader in surgical advancement and education for the state.
Lottenberg received his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine and followed with residency training at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
