Shands at UF recognized for quality stroke care
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Shands at the University of Florida will be featured in the July 28 issue of U.S. News & World Report to commemorate their receipt of the American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines Silver Performance Achievement Award.
The award recognizes participants for using evidence-based guidelines to provide outstanding patient care.
“The American Stroke Association is pleased to recognize its top Get With The Guidelines participants,” said Lee Schwamm, M.D., Get With The Guidelines steering committee national chairman. He is also a Harvard Medical School associate professor of neurology and Massachusetts General Hospital neurology vice chairman
“Healthcare providers who use Get With The Guidelines are armed with the latest evidence-based guidelines and immediate access to clinical decision support. The goal of this initiative is to ultimately improve the quality of life and help reduce deaths among heart and stroke patients,” Schwamm said.
Hospitals are recognized for achieving at least 85 percent compliance to Get With The Guidelines measures in specific categories. Hospitals showing 85 percent compliance for 12 consecutive months are given the Silver Performance Achievement Award.
“We are proud that the American Stroke Association has chosen to recognize Shands at UF for our achievements in their Get With The Guidelines program,” said Justine Abram, Shands at UF stroke program coordinator. “Get With The Guidelines gives our professionals the tools and reports they need to effectively treat our stroke patients.”
