UF College of Dentistry appoints associate dean for education

Venita Sposetti, D.M.D., an associate professor in the department of prosthodontics, has been appointed associate dean for education at the University of Florida College of Dentistry.

“It is clear to everyone who knows and works with her that she genuinely cares about the college, the students, and her colleagues on faculty and staff. I am sincerely grateful for her contributions to the college and know that she will continue to have a strong, positive influence in her role as associate dean,” said Teresa A. Dolan, D.D.S., M.P.H., a professor and the dean of the college.

Since July 2001, Sposetti has served as the assistant dean for admissions and financial aid, which is part of the Office of Education. In that role she managed dental admissions and financial aid and led efforts to implement holistic admissions practices in the D.M.D. program, effectively managing the program during a decade of dramatic growth in application numbers.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University in 1973 and her D.M.D. degree from UF in 1979. Her postgraduate work includes earning certificates from UF in General Practice Residency in 1980 and from the College of Education in 2000. She has also served as the director of preclinical and clinical programs and as the associate chair for the department of prosthodontics and participates in the college’s faculty practice program. In 1984, the students voted her Teacher of the Year.

Throughout her service as assistant dean, she continued to contribute to the department of prosthodontics. She also teaches the Interdisciplinary Family Health course, coordinates tobacco workshops, teaches Introduction to Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment and participates in clinical teaching in prosthodontics in the DMD clinics.
