UF&Shands observing national Rare Disease Day
UF&Shands is partnering with the National Organization for Rare Disorders are observing Rare Disease Day today (Feb. 29) to focus attention on patients affected by rare diseases and their families.
Surgical pathologist John Reith, M.D., and David Weinstein, M.D., the director of glycogen storage disease program, will be among the researchers and physicians on hand at the Shands at UF atrium to discuss various diseases, including Pompe disease and glycogen storage disease.
Experts will discuss how many of these rare conditions are treated and what UF researchers are doing to not only understand more about these diseases, but to find improved treatments and potential cures for them.
