UF to host symposium focusing on diversity in student recruitment in veterinary medical profession

The University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine will host the fifth biennial Southeast Regional DiVersity Matters Symposium in Gainesville from April 22-24. The symposium’s focus is on the pipeline for recruiting students to D.V.M. programs.

Keynote speakers for the event will include Carlos Campos, D.V.M., who was America’s Favorite Veterinarian in 2013, and Christine Stanley, vice president and associate provost for diversity at Texas A&M University.

The symposium is a regional meeting focused on diversity and inclusion in veterinary medicine. Attendees will include faculty, staff and students from all of the Southeastern veterinary medical schools.

Presentations will focus on creating pathways for recruiting students to D.V.M. programs. Evidence-based recruiting, health science professional perspectives and early childhood recruitment are among the topics that will be covered in morning sessions April 23.

Sponsoring the event will be the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, Zoetis, Banfield Pet Hospital and the UF President’s Council on Diversity.
