Governor Ron DeSantis Announces Dr. Scott A. Rivkees as Florida Surgeon General
Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed Scott A. Rivkees, M.D., state surgeon general and secretary of the Florida Department of Health.
Dr. Rivkees, the current chair of the department of pediatrics at the UF College of Medicine and physician-in-chief at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital, is an international expert on pediatric endocrinology and developmental biology who joined UF Health from Yale University in 2012. We will work quickly to name interim leadership for these important roles.
He will maintain his involvement with his existing federally funded research projects. He is world-renowned for his work in thyroid diseases, brain injury in prematurity and molecular mechanisms of early childhood development, and helped lead the development of global standards for treating pediatric thyroid disorders.
Dr. Rivkees earned his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed residency training in pediatrics and fellowship training in pediatric endocrinology at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.
