The University of Florida College of Medicine rose in the national research rankings while also remaining Florida’s top-ranked medical school, according to new graduate medical school rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report. It is joined in the national rankings by the No. 7-ranked College of Veterinary Medicine.

The College of Medicine is No. 35 in the country for research, up from No. 37 in last year’s rankings. In other graduate school rankings released last month, the College of Veterinary Medicine continued its climb from a prior No. 9 ranking. It is now No. 5 in the nation among veterinary colleges at public universities.

“These rankings validate what our talented faculty and staff strive for every day — to strengthen our position among the nation’s best in medical research and education,” said David R. Nelson, M.D., senior vice president for health affairs at UF and president of UF Health. “UF Health’s continued presence among the country’s elite medical schools is a direct result of our collective talent, ambition and determination.”

The College of Medicine’s research ranking is based on factors that include acceptance rate, faculty-to-student-ratio, federal research funding and a nationwide survey of faculty and academic administrators.

“At the UF College of Medicine and across the health sciences campus, inspiration is always close at hand,” said Colleen G. Koch, M.D., M.S., M.B.A., dean of the College of Medicine and the Folke H. Peterson Dean’s Distinguished Professor. “As a leader in biomedical research, artificial

intelligence development and many other disciplines, we pursue significant discoveries while educating the next generation of physicians, scientists and care providers. It is exceptionally gratifying to see those efforts come together in a way that improves lives close to home and around the world.”

The latest rankings further bolster UF and UF Health’s robust national reputation. UF is the country’s No. 5 public university, according to U.S. News & World Report. The UF College of Pharmacy is also ranked fifth nationally. Combined, UF Health Shands Hospital and UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital have more nationally ranked specialties than any other hospital in Florida, with five adult and five pediatric medical specialties recognized for their excellence.
