UF Health Spanish Plaines earns ‘A’ for safety
LEESBURG, Fla. — November 13, 2025 — UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital has earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that sets the standard for excellence in hospital safety and quality. This top rating recognizes UF Health’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding patients through a culture of safety, excellence and compassion.
UF Health acquired UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital — then known as The Villages® Hospital — in 2020. Since then, the hospital has implemented new service standards and systemwide initiatives focused on advancing safety quality and the overall patient experience
“Earning an ‘A’ grade is a reflection of the promise we’ve made at UF Health Central Florida — to provide the highest level of care to our communities,” said Heather Long, M.S.N., UF Health senior vice president and Central Florida regional president. “This recognition represents just one measure of the hard work, growth and unwavering dedication our physicians, nurses and care teams demonstrate every day in fulfilling that commitment.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is categorized and assigned to hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures, including errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. The biannual grading system empowers patients and families to make informed decisions about where to receive care.
