UF Health Orthopaedic Surgical Center unveiled
UF Health leaders celebrate the grand opening of the new UF Health Orthopaedic Surgical Center.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Safety, ease and convenience. All three were at the forefront when constructing the new UF Health Orthopaedic Surgical Center.
UF Health leaders gathered Thursday to celebrate the grand opening of the 24,000-square-foot facility. Equipped with advanced, specialized operating suites with the infrastructure to add additional suites in the future, the UF Health Orthopaedic Surgical Center is designed with patients in mind, allowing for convenient same-day surgery.
“The heart of what we do here is getting you back to your life,” said Michael D. Holmes, M.S.A., UF Health senior vice president and Greater Gainesville regional president. “This center reflects our longstanding commitment to providing exceptional, compassionate care, a responsibility we have embraced since our orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine program began back in 1960.”
The new location features 11 preoperation and 11 postoperation bays, ensuring a smooth and seamless patient flow. Each operating suite was built for flexibility to tailor care to the patient.
“Inside this building, our patients will benefit from the powerful combination of advanced technology and highly skilled, innovative surgeons,” said C. Parker Gibbs Jr., M.D., chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine in the UF College of Medicine. “The UF Health Orthopaedic Surgical Center represents the very best of what orthopaedic medicine can achieve.”
The UF Health Orthopaedic Surgical Center expands access to the same orthopaedic and sports medicine care that supports the Florida Gators and Team USA athletes. Since 2023, UF Health has been a national medical center, part of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Medical Network.
“We know that when you or a loved one needs surgery, the experience can feel overwhelming,” Holmes said. “We’ve built this for our neighbors, ensuring that world-class surgical care is available right here in a way that’s easier for both patients and providers.”
