Hello, my name is Cara Yergen, MD, DFAPA. I am a board-certified psychiatrist, diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and have been granted recognition as a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. I was born and raised in Massachusetts and completed my residency training at the Institute of Living at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut. I spent my final year in residency as the chief psychiatry resident and have been practicing psychiatry in Florida since 2009. In my years since training, I have practiced in many different settings, giving me a solid, well-rounded knowledge and experience base.
My patients describe me as down-to-earth and approachable and report they feel comfortable confiding in me. I use medications in a conservative manner and my philosophy in prescribing is to maintain patients on the least amount of medication necessary to achieve a positive effect. I treat a wide variety of general mental health conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD and anxiety disorders and I minimize the use of addictive prescription psychiatric medication as much as possible.
