About me

Dr. Ameli is a neurointensivist with board certifications in neurology as well as neurocritical care. He received his medical degree from the University of Central Florida, where he received scholarship support in exchange for being among a selected group of students helping to launch UCF's College of Medicine. He then completed prestigious residency and fellowship training programs at Vanderbilt and Emory Universities. He was elected to the trainee section leadership for the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS) as a resident and picked to participate in the NCS Future Leaders' Forum in 2018, maintaining various leadership roles in NCS since that time. He is currently serves on the philanthropy committee for the Neurocritical Care Foundation, with a specific interest in educational philanthropy. He is also a member of the Society for Critical Care Medicine, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Heart/Stroke Association.

Dr. Ameli has participated in a variety of basic science and clinical research projects, ranging from the role of specific cell cycle kinases in the development of prostate and breast cancer and aquaporin protein response to acetazolamide in hydrocephalus, to the genetics of stroke outcome and management of subarachnoid hemorrhage. True to his ever-curious spirit, his current projects are wide-ranging, including the utility of virtual shadowing as a force for equity in the pre-health pipeline, the development of new bioinformatic tools to monitor intracranial compliance, evaluating variability in the management of status epilepticus, and assessing the prevalence of self-fulfilling prophecy bias in neuroprognostication. He also serves as the site PI for the SENSE trial.

Dr. Ameli is the founding faculty member for the Medi-Gators Virtual Shadowing Program, with over 1500 participating pre-health students each semester. He regularly provides lectures to residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers in neurology, neurosurgery, emergency medicine, and critical care medicine. He also teaches UF's medical students, providing multiple lectures during the MS2 Neuroscience block, MS3 Clerkship didactics, and MS4 Neurology elective.

Outside of work, Dr. Ameli loves to spend time with his wife, daughter, and dog. He loves afternoon walks with the family, exploring new restaurants, attempting to make all kinds of food at home (with a lot of help from his wife), and doing his best to stay active in the Florida sun. He is also a big sports fan with orange-and-blue running through his veins - Go Gators!
