Program
There are 16 pharmacy resident positions available to eligible candidates at UF Health Shands Hospital. These are divided among the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency, PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency, PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership and PGY2 Pharmacy Residencies that include Ambulatory Care, Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Pediatrics, and Solid Organ Transplant. The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency offers seven required rotations and provides ample time for elective rotations in a variety of settings.

Adult inpatient oncology rotations are currently on hold as we recruit for new preceptors. We anticipate that these rotations will become available again in 2026.
Core longitudinal experiences
Staff one evening shift approximately every other week (3pm-7pm), every third weekend, and assigned holidays (1 major and 1 to 2 minor holidays) [52 weeks]
Conduct a Medication Use Evaluation [26 weeks]
Complete and present a P&T monograph [4 weeks]
Complete and publish an article for the Drugs and Therapy Bulletin [4 weeks]
Fall ACPE-accredited Grand Rounds presentation [11 weeks]
Spring ACPE-accredited Grand Rounds presentation [11 weeks]
Residency Research Project [52 weeks]
Participate in Code Blue Emergency Response services [52 weeks]
- pharmacokinetics consultations [52 weeks]
Vancomycin and aminoglycosides
Additional requirements include (but are not limited to)
Attend Professional Development Session meetings with the Directors of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Leadership
Assist in precepting Doctor of Pharmacy students
Present a platform presentation on a project at the Florida Residency Conference
- Serve in a residency leadership role, examples include:
Chief Resident, Communications, Community Outreach, Education, Lead Recruitment, Preceptor Development, Professional Development, Research, Scheduling, Student Relations, Wellness
- Participate on a Pharmacy Department Committee, examples include:

Complete the University of Florida College of Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program
Stipend
The resident receives a $52,000 stipend paid by UF Health Shands Hospital. The stipend, coupled with the comparatively low cost of living in Gainesville, should ensure a financially sufficient year.

Eligibility requirements
Academic: Applicants must be graduates or candidates for graduation from an ACPE-accredited degree program (or one in the process of pursuing accreditation) or have a foreign pharmacy graduate examination committee (FPGEC) certificate from the NABP.
Professional License: All residents must be eligible for Florida licensure. Selected and matched residents must be licensed by August 1st.
Interview: An interview is required. Interviews are conducted on Fridays during the months of January and February.
Foreign Applicants: To be considered for employment, you must presently have an employment authorization that is valid throughout the residency period. We do not sponsor international visas.
