PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency
The residency in Ambulatory Care will build upon the knowledge, skills and abilities gained in completing the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and their PGY1 residency experience.
The program focuses on developing advanced pharmacist practitioners with comprehensive knowledge, skills, and abilities in various educational competency areas, to allow them to successfully obtain employment as clinical specialists, and fulfill positions in ambulatory care sites that will employ their expertise. They may also pursue board certification in ambulatory care (BCACP) and other certifications related to therapeutic areas or specific practice settings.
Pharmacists completing this program will be responsible for assisting patients to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes as members of the healthcare team. They will educate other healthcare professionals, patients, and the community on health and drug-related topics. They will demonstrate an ability to evaluate and analyze drug literature, and to effectively communicate complex information in an easily understandable manner through formal and informal presentations, as well as have opportunities to practice precepting and teaching roles. They will be adept in problem solving and in managing their clinical practice. These pharmacists will be motivated, highly committed life-long learners, and adaptable to many practice settings and a changing healthcare environment. They will also demonstrate a level of personal accountability that is characteristic of professional maturity. They will demonstrate leadership skills, exhibit a commitment to the profession, and possess marketable skills for the current and future job environment.
