Birthing options
No child birthing experience is alike. There are many important decisions for moms and dads to make before and during this exciting time. At UF Health Flagler Hospital, we are committed to helping families achieve their desired experience while always placing the health of mom and baby at the forefront.
UF Health Flagler Hospital's Birth Unit has been designed to accommodate all types of delivery preferences. We offer specialty rooms for low-intervention birth experiences where qualified patients and their families can enjoy aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, music of choice, birthing balls and nursing care from any staff member who have been trained in alternative methods of pain relief.
As this may not be an option for everyone, we also provide 24-hour access to anesthesiologists and all of our patients enjoy the unique amenities of our family-based unit. Our private rooms are decorated with soft lighting, soothing colors and furnished to provide a comfortable, nurturing homelike environment for you, your baby and your family during your stay. Each room is equipped with a rocking chair, a sleeper sofa for a guest, and a flat screen TV with DVD player.
Post-Partum Suites
We are extremely proud of our new Postpartum unit located on the fourth floor of the hospital. This family-based unit was designed and built in a fashion to specifically cater to you and your newborn's needs. Our private rooms are decorated with soft lighting, soothing colors and furnished to provide a comfortable, nurturing homelike environment for you, your baby and your family during your stay. Each room is equipped with a rocking chair, a sleeper sofa for a guest, a flat screen TV with DVD player and a refrigerator for refreshments and snacks.
Neonatal Intensive Care
We know all expectant parents hope for a full term, healthy baby. But sometimes complications arise. The focus of our NICU is to meet the needs of the entire family in a supportive environment. The NICU combines intensive care with developmentally based care, creating a warm environment for babies with the most advanced technology available. Parents are encouraged to spend as much time with their baby as possible during the infant's stay.
Infant security
UF Health Flagler Hospital's Safe Place Security System keeps babies safe and secure in our birthing and post partum units.
- All infants wear an electronic bracelet, and as the bracelet changes location, the movement is reflected on the main monitor at the nurse’s station.
- All OB entries and exits are controlled by identification badge readers.
- A remote control device allows staff to grant access to visitors and family members through the main entrance.
Breastfeeding Support and Milk Depot
If you plan to breastfeed, a lactation consultant will visit you during your hospital stay and will provide information, assistance, and support. We have Certified Lactation Counselors and International Board Certified Lactation Consultants on staff. These nurses have received additional specialized training in helping moms and babies with breastfeeding.
After you go home, the lactation nurses will call to see how you and your baby are doing and can answer any additional questions you may have. Breastfeeding assistance is available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday - Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. most weekends by leaving a message on the lactation support line at (904) 819-4353. One of our lactation specialists will return your call within 24 hours.
