Anesthesiology is the branch of medicine concerned with the application of anesthetics, drugs that cause the temporary loss of bodily sensations. The application of anesthetics is commonly done during surgical and dental procedures.
The University of Florida Department of Anesthesiology is a world renowned academic department that typically publishes at least one book, more than 50 manuscripts and book chapters and is granted at least 4 U. S. patents each year. Multiple fellowship-trained faculty cover each clinical subspecialty discipline including: Critical Care Medicine, pediatric, congenital cardiac, adult cardiac, neurosurgical and obstetric anesthesia as well as regional and acute pain medicine and chronic pain. Research interests of the faculty span clinical, basic science, nanotechnology, simulation training and interactive World Wide Web projects.
