Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

UF Health Psychiatry experts, including board-certified psychiatrists and psychologists, offer comprehensive care for children and adolescents facing mental health issues. These disorders can include various abnormalities related to thinking, feeling and/or behavior that’s not only impacting children and adolescents, but their families as well.

Our expert team’s mission is to improve the lives of minors suffering from these conditions in the greater North Central Florida area. This process starts with a psychiatric assessment as we conduct a mental status examination and compile a case history. Psychological tests and physical examinations may be performed.

Then, the UF Health Psychiatry team combines clinical innovation, research and education to achieve the best results for your child. Treatment includes a variety of options in regards to psychoactive medication and psychotherapy, and a broad spectrum of other techniques.

Treatment may be delivered on an inpatient or outpatient basis, depending on the severity of functional impairment or on other aspects of the disorder in question. While inpatient treatment is offered at the UF Health Shands Psychiatric Hospital, outpatient services are offered at UF Health Child Psychiatry – Springhill.

Our collaborative team of UF Health child psychiatrists, psychologists, advanced registered nurse practitioners and therapists work together to meet the evaluation and treatment needs of children and their families.
