What is Diagnostic Radiology?

Diagnostic radiology is a branch of medicine that uses medical imaging techniques to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries. It is a non-invasive diagnostic method that provides physicians with images of the internal structures of the body, allowing them to assess a patient's condition and determine the best course of treatment.

Diagnostic radiology includes a wide range of imaging techniques such as X-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound and nuclear medicine. Each of these techniques uses different technology to generate images of the body's internal structures.

X-rays are the most common imaging technique used in diagnostic radiology. They use a small amount of ionizing radiation to create images of the bones and other dense structures in the body. CT scans use X-rays to create detailed images of the body's organs and tissues.

MRI uses a powerful magnet and radio waves to create images of the body's internal structures. It is particularly useful for imaging soft tissues such as the brain, spinal cord and joints.
