Preparing for a Liver Transplant
Liver transplant is an option for patients with chronic or acute liver disease.
There is a lot to plan for when preparing to receive a transplant: an evaluation phase, a waiting period, hospitalization for surgery, and continuing lifelong care after surgery. We provide a dedicated team of individuals to provide help and answer questions during each step of the process.
Your local doctor will refer you for evaluation at the UF Health Shands Transplant Center, and you will be given an appointment with our transplant hepatologists who will review your local records as well as schedule initial testing.
If the transplant hepatologists determine you are a strong candidate for liver transplantation, they will refer you to a pre-transplant coordinator who will schedule a two-day liver transplant evaluation where you will meet every member of the team, including your transplant surgeon, and complete a series of tests and interviews.
