Preparing for a Lung Transplant
Lung transplant is not simply a surgical procedure – it is a lifetime commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, follow-up care and adherence to a strict medical regimen that will be necessary to protect your child’s lungs.
Pre-transplant evaluation
During the pre-transplant evaluation, medical experts from UF Health will work to do the following:
- Obtain medical records.
- Perform pulmonary function testing, or PFT, blood tests, chest X-ray, computed tomography scans and other diagnostic testing.
- Detect and treat any infection prior to transplantation.
- Complete routine childhood immunizations.
