Multidisciplinary treatment for comprehensive care

The UF Health GI Oncology Center is staffed by highly trained academic physicians with expertise in a variety of medical specialties and subspecialties, who collaborate to optimize rapid diagnosis and highly effective treatment of patients with digestive cancers.

The multidisciplinary team of digestive cancer specialists includes UF Health surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, pathologists and radiologists, as well as oncology nurses, genetic counselors, social workers, psychologists, nutritionists and integrative medicine specialists. To ensure the best possible outcomes, this team meets weekly to discuss and determine the best treatment plan for each individual patient — plans that incorporate the latest modalities, including access to experimental treatments and new therapies not available elsewhere. During the center’s multidisciplinary clinic, patients can see all essential members of the team during a single comprehensive visit.

Our dedicated GI oncology nurse navigator facilitates all aspects of patient care and serves as the liaison between patients, referring physicians and the multidisciplinary UF Health GI oncology team. This simplifies patient access for appointments and services, and provides patients with continuity from the initial visit through treatment and follow-up consultations. It also ensures the seamless transition of care from the referring physicians to the UF Health GI Oncology Center and back again, easing the burden on patients and their families.

Our team at the UF GI Oncology Center is dedicated to providing the highest level of care to patients throughout the entire course of their cancer treatment. Referring physicians are an integral part of that care. We are committed to keeping all members of the health care team informed about each patient’s treatment and will provide information on a regular basis to ensure that everyone involved remains up to date.

Contact the UF Health GI Oncology Center at (352) 265-0535 to schedule a consultation or to obtain a second opinion. The address is 1600 SW Archer Road Room D2-3 Gainesville, Florida, 32610.
