UF Health Shands Comprehensive Stroke Center: Clinical Trials

Stroke research is a vital component for patients at the UF Health Shands Comprehensive Stroke Center.

UF Health Stroke Clinical Trials

Vascular Neurology

  • ARCADIA
(Atrial Cardiopathy and Antithrombotic Drugs in Prevention After Cryptogenic Stroke)
Trial of apixaban versus aspirin in patients who have evidence of atrial cardiopathy and a recent stroke of unknown cause
  • ARCADIA-CSI
    (Cognition and Silent Infarcts)
Compare the effects of ARCADIA study drugs on the occurrence of silent strokes and memory loss after stroke.
  • CAPTIVA
(Comparison of Anti-coagulation and Anti-Platelet Therapies for Intracranial Vascular Atherostenosis)
Determine if the experimental arms are superior to the clopidogrel arm for lowering the 1-year rate of ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, or vascular death.
  • CREST-2 + Registry
(Carotid Revascularization and Medical Management for Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis Trial)
To assess treatment differences between intensive medical management alone compared to CEA/CAS plus intensive medical management
  • CREST – H
(Carotid Revascularization and Medical Management for Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis - Hemodynamics)
To determine whether cognition can be improved by revascularization among patients with hemodynamic impairment and mild cognitive impairment at baseline
  • Sleep-SMART
(Sleep for Stroke Management And Recovery Trial)
To test whether treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with continuous positive airway pressure is effective for secondary prevention and recovery after stroke.
  • SATURN
(Statins Use in Intracerebral Hemorrhage Patients)
A Phase III study to determine the risk of statin use after an intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) on ICH reoccurrence or new occurrence of any other major cerebrovascular event.
  • TCSD
(Transitions of Care Stroke Disparity Study)
Focuses on identifying race-ethnic and sex disparities in hospital-to-home transition of care and outcomes after stroke.
  • TIMELESS
(Tenecteplase in Stroke Patients Between 4.5 and 24 Hours)
Evaluates the efficacy and safety of tenecteplase compared with placebo in participants with acute ischemic stroke (AIS).

Neurocritical Care

  • INTREPID
(Impact of Fever Prevention in Brain Injured Patients)
To assess fever burden and the impact on outcomes of fever prevention in brain-injured patients
  • PILLAR-XT
(ExtracorPoreal FILtration of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage via SpinaL CAtheteR EXTension)
To further demonstrate safety and characterize effectiveness of the Neurapheresis System (extracorporeal system and catheter)

Neurosurgery

  • EMBOLISE
Embolization of the Middle Meningeal Artery with ONYX™ Liquid Embolic System In the Treatment of Subacute and Chronic Subdural HEmatoma
  • Sterling Coil Registry
A prospective, multi-center, single arm study to obtain "Real World" clinical data and characterized the acute and long-term performance of the micrusframe and galaxy coils for the endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms
