Clinical Trials

Stroke research is a vital component for patients at the UF Health Shands Comprehensive Stroke Center.

To assess fever burden and the impact on outcomes of fever prevention in brain-injured patients
  • MaRISS
(Mild and Rapidly Improving Stroke Study)
  • MOST
    (Multi-arm Optimization of Stroke Thrombolysis)
A blinded, randomized controlled adaptive, multi-arm, adjunctive-thrombolysis efficacy trial in ischemic stroke
  • Sleep-SMART
(Sleep for Stroke Management And Recovery Trial)
To test whether treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with continuous positive airway pressure is effective for secondary prevention and recovery after stroke.

Hemorrahgic Stroke

  • ASTROH
Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Trial randomizing heparin: A prospective, randomized, Phase 2a pilot study of unfractionated heparin in aSAH
  • CATCH
(A Proof-of-Concept Study to Evaluate the Administration of CN-105 in Patients with Acute Supratentorial Intracerebral Hemorrhage)
To assess safety of CN-105 administration in primary ICH
  • FEAT
(Framing eighteen coils in cerebral aneurysms trial)
A randomized controlled trial of eighteen (0.014-0.0155 inch) platinum coils versus standard (<0.014) platinum coils in the endovascular treatment of medium-sized (7 – 14 mm) intracranial aneurysms
  • INTREPID
(Impact of Fever Prevention in Brain Injured Patients)
To assess fever burden and the impact on outcomes of fever prevention in brain-injured patients
  • Nano
Effectiveness and safety of small aneurysm coiling trial
  • NAPA IDE: PulseRider
A prospective, multi-center, single arm study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the PulseRider Aneurysm Neck Reconstruction Device used in conjunction with endovascular coil embolization in the treatment of wide-neck bifurcation intracranial aneurysms.
  • PILLAR-XT
(ExtracorPoreal FILtration of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage via SpinaL CAtheteR EXTension)
To further demonstrate safety and characterize effectiveness of the Neurapheresis System (extracorporeal system and catheter)
  • Sterling Coil Registry
A prospective, multi-center, single arm study to obtain "Real World" clinical data and characterized the acute and long-term performance of the micrusframe and galaxy coils for the endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms

Peri-Operative / Management

  • CORLISS
Comparing laboratory indicators of therapeutic platelet inhibition in endovascular neurosurgical patients

Carotid Artery Disease

  • CREST-2 + Registry
(Carotid Revascularization and Medical Management for Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis Trial)
To assess treatment differences between intensive medical management alone compared to CEA/CAS plus intensive medical management
  • CREST – H
(Carotid Revascularization and Medical Management for Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis - Hemodynamics)
To determine whether cognition can be improved by revascularization among patients with hemodynamic impairment and mild cognitive impairment at baseline

Disparities in Health Care

  • TCSD
(Transitions of Care Stroke Disparity Study)
Focuses on identifying race-ethnic and sex disparities in hospital-to-home transition of care and outcomes after stroke.
  • HSPIRP
    (Hispanic Stroke Prevention/Intervention Research Program)
Evaluate the disparities in stroke performance metrics individually and for overall rates by race, ethnicity, and geographic region in Florida and Puerto Rico

Intracranial Stenosis

  • MyRAID
(Mechanisms of Early Recurrence in Intracranial Atherosclerotic Disease (IAD))
To determine the mechanisms of stroke patients with IAD by evaluating limitations of antegrade flow through the stenotic artery, distal tissue perfusion to the affected territory, and artery-to-artery embolism
