UF Health patients, with permission from their physician or caregiver, family members and other guests can now use their own wireless devices (i.e. laptop computer, PDA) to access the Internet for free throughout the designated areas of UF Health Shands Hospital.
Identified wireless Internet “hot spots” include: patient rooms, atriums, main lobbies, cafeterias, physician lounges and dining areas, operating room waiting areas and public waiting areas. However, wireless devices are prohibited in critical care units, surgical areas and other areas defined by Shands’ device management policy. Before patients or guests can log on to the Website or check e-mail, a legal disclaimer outlining appropriate usage will appear on the screen. In addition, Shands’ existing Web-filtering system will also restrict access to inappropriate Internet sites.
