Biography

Biagio "Bill" A. Pietra, MD, is board-certified in general pediatrics and pediatric cardiology, and leads the pediatric cardiology program at UF Health. Dr. Pietra received his bachelor's and post-baccalaureate degrees from UF. He received his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa. Dr. Pietra completed his pediatric internship, pediatric residency and his pediatric cardiology fellowship at the Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati.

Dr. Pietra has spent most of his career as medical director for the pediatric cardiac transplant program and pediatric cardiac mechanical assist program at The Colorado Children's Hospital, Aurora, where he also was associate professor in the department of pediatrics, division of cardiology at the University of Colorado, Health Sciences.

Dr. Pietra has received awards from the American Heart Association and National Institutes of Health-R01. He continues to review grants while serving on the National Institutes of Health-National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Study Sections.

Dr. Pietra is a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Cardiology. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Transplantation and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. He also has served as a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners.
