MyUFHealth e-Visits

Communication between patients and their care providers is critical to the provision of high-quality health care and enhanced well-being.

MyUFHealth is a secure online portal offered on behalf of UF Health to patients to help them engage in their care. This portal allows patients to have conversations with their provider via email.

Messaging provides patients an opportunity to contact care providers with questions. These questions include:

  • Care for previously diagnosed conditions or illnesses
  • Changes in their health status related to these diagnoses

Sometimes, you might have a question about new health issues you are experiencing, or want to request advanced care for an existing or chronic issue. UF Health is offering patients a new care option when these circumstances arise.

E-visits

With an e-visit, patients can now consult with their provider using the myUFHealth messaging system. This is more convenient for patients and allows providers to address the new health care issue they are experiencing or provide extended care for an existing condition.

An e-visit is a billable visit with your doctor. UF Health will submit charges to the patients’ insurance companies and patients may be responsible for co-payments, co-insurance and deductibles.

What if I have an emergency?

If your medical issue is an emergency, you should call 911.

Can I schedule an appointment?

Yes, you always have the option to make an office appointment. Indeed, not all medical problems are amenable to being managed by an e-visit and, in those cases, your provider will refer you to an office visit instead.

What if my provider messages me?

If your provider messages you first, you will not be billed. Conversations started by you that involve new health issues or requesting advanced care for an existing or chronic issue may be billed.

Common questions about billing

Will I be billed for all my messages?

No, only conversations related to new health issues or requesting advanced care for an existing or chronic issue will be billed. UF Health is offering patients this new care option when these circumstances arise. Instead of forcing patients to make an appointment with the provider’s office, they can utilize the messaging system for a billable e-visit. Requests for prescription refills, simple messages related to care updates and requests for appointments will not be billable.

Types of messages that won’t be billed:

  • Scheduling an appointment
  • Getting a prescription refilled
  • Asking a question that leads to an appointment
  • Asking a question about an issue you saw your provider for in the past seven days
  • Checking in as part of your follow-up care after a procedure
  • Giving a quick update to your provider

How much will an e-visit cost?

As with other visit types, the cost of an e-visit is largely determined by the rate that 3rd party payors are willing to pay. The cost of an e-visit is comparable to that of an office visit, and you will be responsible for co-payments, co-insurance and deductibles, as you are with an office visit. These costs may vary depending on your health insurance plan. We recommend you check with your insurer to better understand the costs.

Will you charge me without me knowing?

When you begin messaging with your provider, you are providing consent to UF Health to bill if your messages are about a new health issue or results in more advanced care for an existing or chronic issue. As always, you can schedule an appointment with your provider instead of using the e-visit option.
