UF faculty named to Redbook’s list of top breast cancer experts

Six University of Florida College of Medicine faculty are among the country’s top breast cancer specialists listed in Redbook magazine’s October 2001 edition, which coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Those who made the list include Henry Hollis Caffee, M.D., professor of surgery and chief of the division of plastic surgery; Edward M. Copeland III, M.D., the Edward R. Woodward professor and chairman of the department of surgery; Nancy S. Hardt, M.D., associate professor of pathology, immunology and laboratory medicine, associate dean of managed care, and co-director of the UF Center for Research on Women’s Health; Linda Lanier, M.D., associate professor of radiology; James W. Lynch Jr., M.D., associate professor of medicine; and Nancy P. Mendenhall, M.D., professor and chair of the department of radiation oncology.

All are part of an interdisciplinary team of breast cancer experts affiliated with the College of Medicine and the University of Florida Shands Cancer Center. The team consists of eight radiologists who read mammograms and perform breast biopsies, three surgeons experienced in breast operations, and several oncologists, radiation oncologists and pathologists.

Redbook and Castle Connolly, the publisher of the consumer health-care guide America’s Top Doctors, asked a physician-led team to compile a list of the nation’s top breast cancer specialists. The team asked doctors to identify outstanding practitioners in their areas and then evaluate each nominated physician’s education and experience. The directory of specialists is published in a special tear-out booklet in October’s Redbook.
