UF College of Medicine graduating seniors honor faculty who made a difference

Once again, University of Florida College of Medicine graduating seniors have presented Golden Apple Awards to the department of obstetrics and gynecology for its outstanding third-year clerkship and to the department of anatomy and cell biology as the outstanding basic science department.

Both departments have won Golden Apples multiple times, including last year. The awards were given April 25 at the Senior Faculty Awards Banquet at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center Gainesville. At the event, graduating medical students recognized faculty who had a special influence on their education.

Kyle E. Rarey, Ph.D., a professor of anatomy and cell biology, was honored with the Basic Science Teaching Award, and Gene Ryerson, M.D., a professor of medicine, received the Clinical Science Teaching Award. Josepha Cheong, M.D., assistant professor of psychiatry, was honored for exemplary service as class advisor.

Resident Shireen Madani, M.D., of the department of obstetrics and gynecology, received the Hugh M. Hill Award for exemplary support of the senior class. In addition, about 30 awards were presented to members of the senior class.
